Dana Launches Serial Production of Metallic Bipolar Plates, Features Fuel Cell Technologies at Hannover Messe
Apr 8, 2013
MAUMEE, Ohio, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) announced today it has become one of the first companies to launch serial production of metallic bipolar plates, a critical component for enhancing the performance of fuel-cell powered engines. Dana will exhibit its award-winning fuel-cell technologies at Hannover Messe 2013 in Germany, which takes place through April 12.
As a major functional component of the fuel-cell stack, bipolar plates are responsible for distributing the fuel, air, and coolant liquid to each of the catalyst-coated membrane cells.
Dana's ultra-thin metallic bipolar plates incorporate the company's patented integrated sealing technology, which provides best-in-class power density and superior reliability and durability. To manufacture these new metallic bipolar plates, Dana has established a fully integrated production process that combines precision high-speed stamping, laser welding, and in-line conductive coating technologies.
By utilizing a range of advanced processes specifically developed for metallic bipolar plates, Dana is able to streamline production to cost-effectively manufacture a high volume of plates at its facility in Neu-Ulm, Germany.
"Dana has combined its deep knowledge of sealing technology with its manufacturing expertise to bring this comprehensive fuel-cell innovation to market," said Dwayne Matthews, president of Dana's Power Technologies Group. "We are able to offer our customers a completely integrated solution, including the plate, sealing, and coating, enabling us to deliver a cost-competitive product that achieves the highest levels of efficiency."
In addition to its advanced metallic bipolar plates, Dana's lineup of fuel-cell products includes molded graphite composite bipolar plates, heat exchangers, hydrogen reformers, and thermal management systems. This entire offering will be on display at Dana's exhibit (hall 27, stand B71) at Hannover Messe.
Hannover Messe is a premier industrial technology show that focuses on services and technologies from companies all over the world that aid industrial innovation, production, and efficiency. Companies that participate are prevalent in industries such as industrial automation, energy and environmental technologies, manufacturing, power transmission, and control.
During the event, Brian Cheadle, director, advanced technologies business development for Dana, will present an overview of the company's fuel-cell technologies today at 4:40 p.m. CEST in hall 27, stand B66.
