Dana Honored with PACE Award For Spicer® Diamond Series™ Driveshaft
Apr 16, 2013
MAUMEE, Ohio, April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) was presented with a 2013 Automotive News PACE Award for its innovative Spicer® Diamond Series™ driveshaft, the first one-piece driveshaft to combine dissimilar metals, helping to reduce weight by up to 40 percent.
This industry-first one-piece aluminum driveshaft utilizes Dana's advanced proprietary manufacturing processes to significantly reduce weight while maintaining the strength of an all steel system. The result is a very robust and significantly lighter driveshaft for improved fuel efficiency and load carrying capacity.
"It is a true honor to earn the Automotive News PACE Award. This recognition is a reflection of Dana's longstanding commitment to developing advanced and game-changing technologies that positively impact our business and transform the industry," said Pat D'Eramo, president of Dana Commercial Vehicle Driveline Technologies. "Our expert engineering team and proprietary manufacturing processes aided Dana in developing an innovative technology that creates value for our customers."
Dana's award-winning driveshaft eliminates the need for a center bearing, helping to reduce component complexity and weight by up to 100 pounds. Additionally, the Spicer® Diamond Series™ driveshaft requires no exterior tube painting and eliminates the metal inert gas (MIG) welding process, helping to reduce emissions during manufacturing.
The Automotive News PACE Awards honor superior innovation, technological advancement, and business performance among automotive suppliers. Since the award's inception, Dana has been recognized four times for its innovative technologies. Dana received the inaugural award in 1995 for its near net journal cross and integrated seal design. Last year, Dana received the Automotive News PACE Innovative Partnership Award with Ford Motor Co. for its Long® active and passive warm-up units, which improve fuel efficiency by up to 4 percent.
