Improved Traction, Handling & Vehicle Control With New Dana Spicer® Limited-Slip Axle
|
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 24, 2006 -- Dana Corporation’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group has expanded its line of limited-slip differentials for their industry proven Spicer® medium-duty single and tandem axles. Dana’s new differentials are ideally suited for vehicles encountering rain, ice, snow, sand, mud, and excessive grades that can cause poor traction conditions.
“Dana’s strong expertise in traction control technology led to the development of this new limited-slip differential. The differentials will benefit any private, commercial, utility, or municipal vehicle operation wanting to improve efficiency in situations where drivers may experience slippery or unusual road conditions,” said Leo Wenstrup, senior product manager, drive axles for Dana. “Gains in efficiency like this without added maintenance or operational complexity enhance driver safety, convenience, and profitability. Furthermore, these axles eliminate issues such as chatter, noise, excessive backlash, and loss of effectiveness that can diminish overall vehicle performance.”
The new axle differentials feature a helical gear design that provides smooth and fully automatic torque biasing, thus eliminating friction plates that can become worn, for reduced maintenance.
Dana is now offering limited-slip differentials to class 4 through 6 original equipment manufacturers with gross axle weight ratings of 10,000 pounds to 21,000 pounds in the following axles:
• Spicer S110L, S130L, 17060L, 19060L, and 21060L series single drive axles; and
• Spicer DL344 series tandem drive axles.
Emergency vehicles, snowplows, wreckers, utility trucks, walk-in vans, motor homes, landscape, and delivery trucks are among the many vehicle types currently utilizing the Spicer limited-slip differential.
