Dana Demonstrates Focus on Construction at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008
Supplier to Showcase Drivetrain Solutions that Meet Unique Demands
|
Drivetrain solutions for construction, mining, and material-handling vehicles have unique requirements. They must deliver high-efficiency, low-maintenance performance while working in hostile environments that exert high torques and loads on components. They must reduce noise, vibration, and harshness while operating on varied, uneven, and unpaved terrain. And they must accomplish all these goals while meeting industry demands for high reliability as well as regulatory compliance with vehicle operating requirements and regulations.
This week at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 in Las Vegas, Dana Holding Corporation is showcasing its leading line of axles, transmissions, and driveshafts specifically engineered for the construction, mining, and material-handling industries.
“We are seeing several trends shaping the vehicles that attendees will view in Las Vegas this week,” said Alfredo Gottardi, vice president of worldwide marketing and sales for the Dana Off-Highway Products Group. “The global construction boom and the need for the raw materials to feed the construction pipeline are fueling demand for larger vehicles with higher load capacities. Globalization is increasing pressures on OEMs to work more closely with drivetrain suppliers that can deliver a full range of components to their manufacturing facilities spread around the world. And new fuel and vehicle technologies are challenging drivetrain component manufacturers to re-engineer their axle and transmission product offerings to keep pace.”
Dana will exhibit the following drivetrain solutions in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall, Booth S-16313:
Drivetrain System for 33-ton Front-End Loaders
Dana has designed an optimized drivetrain system specifically for 33-ton front-end loaders, which includes the Spicer® TE32 transmission, a Spicer Model 53R300 front axle, and a Spicer Model 43R183 rear axle. Rated at 360 to 530 horsepower, the electronically-controlled Spicer TE32 transmission is available as a three- or four-speed full powershift transmission. It features helical gearing and next-generation electronic control technology, including an ECM with overlap control.
Drivetrain System for 16-ton Front-End Loaders
The Spicer Model 114 (33R092) Hercules™ front axle and Model 113 (29R053) rear axle, a Spicer 319 summing motor, and the compact Spicer 2035 Series driveshaft are combined as an optimized drivetrain solution for 16-ton front-end loader vehicle applications. The Spicer 319 summing motor transfer case provides maximum tractive performance and high efficiency, as it delivers seamless CVT (continuous variable transmission) performance from 0 to 40 kph.
Telescopic Boom Handler System
With up to a five-ton lift capacity, this system specifically designed for telescopic boom handlers is composed of two Spicer Model 223 axles and a Spicer HSY08 powersynchro transmission. The Spicer HSY08 powersynchro transmission offers either electric or automated range shifting with improved controllability, while the Spicer Model 223 front and rear axles feature a spring-applied hydraulically released (SAHR) park brake in the center of the axle to enhance overall safety.
Spicer 369 Hydrostatic Transmission
The Spicer Model 369 shift-on-fly hydrostatic transmission provides an excellent alternative to expensive powershift solutions or basic sliding collar range shift transmissions. It presents a high-value solution that allows seamless operation from reverse, full stop, and all the way to speeds of 40 kph and beyond. The Spicer Model 369 transmission offers a compact layout with a 151 mm drop and can be remote-mounted as well as vertically or horizontally flanged to the axle.
Spicer 319 Summing Motor Transfer Case
The Spicer 319 summing motor transfer case provides maximum tractive performance and high efficiency. Optimized for 140-220 horsepower applications with a specific focus on 13- to 17-ton front-end loaders, this transfer case was designed to accommodate the most cost-effective hydrostatic components, as each motor is connected to its own gear ratio. To maximize efficiency at higher vehicle travel speeds, the clutch can disconnect the low-speed, high-gear-ratio motor, allowing the high-speed motor to function alone.
Spicer T32000 Series Transmission
Enjoying a resurgence in popularity among OEMs in emerging markets, the Spicer T32000 Series transmission features a wide variety of options for vehicles with up to 170 Kw capacity. It is available in mechanical or electric control, offers short drop and long drop configurations, and delivers three- and four-speed full powershift as well as six- and eight-speed range shifts with full reversing ratios. The T32000 Series transmission also includes a choice of ratios, two auxiliary pump drives, numerous parking brake and driveshaft end-fitting options, and a standard or optional converter housing for mounting variable displacement pumps.
Spicer Model 114 (33R092) Hercules Drive Axle
The Spicer Model 114 (33R092) Hercules drive axle is specifically engineered for construction vehicles with operating weights of up to 15 tons in front axle applications, and up to 18 tons in rear axle applications. The foundation of Dana’s new Category 4 product platform, this axle features 6.00-to-1 ratio outboard planetary wheel ends with 425 mm wheel B.C. mounting, self-adjusting internal wet brakes, a trunnion mounting option, and several torque-biasing differential and park brake options.
Spicer Model 110 (17R008) Axle
The compact Spicer Model 110 (17R008) axle features a modular design that improves reliability and allows for installation on a wide variety of two- to four-ton hydrostatic-drive construction and material-handling vehicles. It includes hydraulically applied wet disc service brakes, a mechanical parking brake with levers, standard or 45-percent limited-slip differential, a 1270 to 1530 mm flange-to-flange range, and an 11.9-to-15.4 axle ratio range.
Spicer Model 300K60 Axle
Representing a complete range of eight suspended axles for applications from 80 to 300 PTO horsepower, the Spicer Model 300K60 was developed in response to demand for axles that can support increased vehicle road speeds. This axle offers an integrated electro-hydraulic suspension system consisting of a main cradle, two structural links, an axle housing, two dual-acting hydraulic lift cylinders, and a hall-effect vertical position sensor.
