Dana Launches New Series of Modular Agricultural Axles
Nov 11, 2013
HANOVER, Germany, Nov. 11, 2013 – Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) today unveiled a new line of Spicer® steer axles for agriculture with a modular three-piece construction that allows engineers to reduce the time from design to production to delivery while supporting a wide range of customization options.
Through this effort to reduce complexity and streamline its offerings, Dana will condense its line of agricultural axle models from 17 to eight while extending the application range from 33 to 301 kW (45 to 410 hp) and maximum output torques from 2,000 Nm to 40,000 Nm.
The Spicer M25 and M30 axles for tractors, combines, forage harvesters, and other agricultural equipment from 67 to 93 kW (90 to 125 hp) are currently available. All other models are set to begin production in early 2014.
The new modular axles will replace Dana’s traditional single-piece agricultural axles. While single-piece axles have offered consistently durable performance over many decades, their large, specialized castings restricted customization and limited production options. The components used in Dana’s new line of modular agricultural axles provide engineers with a flexible, global platform that will be produced at Dana’s off-highway facilities, including those in emerging markets.
“To maximize output, agricultural machinery has become increasingly specialized and complex, making traditional single-piece axle designs outdated,” said Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Off-Highway Driveline Technologies. “We have drawn on decades of innovations and our position as a Tier One supplier to agricultural vehicle manufacturers to refresh our axle offerings with a new modular concept that will serve our customers around the globe more effectively.”
The design features a common center section and wheel ends while accommodating multiple traction devices on a single carrier. Spicer agricultural axles are available with a steering sensor, application seals, and a wide selection of brake and differential options.
Dana will present the new axles this week in Hall 01, Stand F207 at Agritechnica 2013, the world’s largest trade fair for agricultural machinery and equipment.
