Dana Enables High-Mileage Heavy-Duty Engines with Next-Generation Victocorâ„¢ 500 Cylinder-Head Gaskets

Mar 27, 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 27, 2014 – Dana Holding Corporation is exhibiting its next-generation Victocor™ 500 cylinder-head gaskets at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS), which begins today.  Designed with multi-layer steel (MLS) inserts, new Victocor 500 gaskets take sealing to the next level, helping heavy-duty engines achieve extreme durability, high-stress, and pressure requirements for over-the-road hauling.

This new generation of reliable, high-performance Victor Reinz® cylinder-head gaskets utilizes high-grade rubber-coated stainless steel in place of traditional rubber inserts to provide optimal sealing performance at oil and coolant passages, as well as pushrod openings.

“Dana’s development of the enhanced Victocor 500 gasket represents our passion and urgency to deliver cutting-edge products to our customers. We work side by side as an extended member of their team to produce the most efficient and innovative products that help our customers stay ahead of the curve,” said Dwayne Matthews, president of Dana’s Power Technologies Group. “By incorporating Dana’s advanced multi-layer-steel inserts, we are delivering increased strength throughout the entire gasket, minimizing oil leaks and maintenance, and giving our customers consistent performance.”

To enhance stability and provide for superior radial strength of the combustion seals, the Victocor 500 gasket incorporates a steel core that is three times thicker than conventional head gaskets. Additionally, the MLS inserts are available in three to five layers specifically matched to the engine load distribution and dynamics to optimize sealing. This patented technology provides improved longevity, as well as long-term recovery over time, resulting in less maintenance due to oil leak avoidance.

The MLS layers will maintain stability over an operating temperate range of -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The stainless steel layers also include mechanical embossments designed to cope with specific engine dynamics.  The Victocor 500 gasket is available in thicknesses ranging from .049 in. (1.25 mm) to .083 in. (2.05 mm) with tolerances of +/- .003 in. (0.08 mm).

The enhanced technology is available during MATS in booth No. 30455. MATS takes place March 27-29, 2014 in Louisville, Ky. and features the latest services and products in the trucking industry.
