Dana Serves Chinese OEMs with Complete Range of Front-End Loader

Drivetrain Platforms Customized for Market Preferences

Nov 25, 2014

SHANGHAI, Nov. 25, 2014 – This week, Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) is presenting a comprehensive lineup of drivetrain options for front-end loaders in hall N5, stand 210 at Bauma China 2014.  Dana offers a range of proven, dependable transmissions, axles, and driveshaft products that meet local requirements, as well as designs incorporating advanced technologies targeted for the export market.

“Dana has more than two decades of experience collaborating with manufacturers in China, which is reflected in our substantial and growing presence here in the region,” said Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Off-Highway Driveline Technologies.  “Supported by the advanced technological capabilities of the Dana China Technical Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, we are in a prime position to evaluate local, regional, and global market trends – and then draw upon a customizable mix of technologies to engineer and produce flexible drivetrain platforms that help equipment buyers reduce their total cost of ownership.”

Spicer® Rui Ma™ TZL Series Transmissions
Dana offers Spicer® Rui Ma™ drivetrain solutions, a range of transmissions and axles designed and produced in China for Chinese front-end loaders and other off-highway equipment.  Spicer Rui Ma products are an affordable, alternative solution for customers who are seeking an optimized blend of product features, performance, dependability, and cost.

Spicer Rui Ma series transmissions use proven internal components from the extensive line of Spicer powershift transmissions already available for the off-highway market.  High-energy-capacity forward and reverse clutches, adaptive clutch modulation, and helical gears deliver a robust transmission with improved shift quality.

At Bauma China, Dana will showcase its Spicer Rui Ma TZL16 RM transmission, which in recent tests demonstrated up to a 25 percent improvement in fuel economy.

Spicer TZL Series Transmissions
Dana offers two Spicer TZL Series powershift transmissions specifically engineered to supply Chinese-made front-end loaders with higher fuel efficiency, increased productivity, longer equipment life, and compliance with stringent emissions regulations.

These transmissions offer enhanced productivity for high-performance applications while delivering better ergonomic comfort and enhanced operator control.

Spicer TE Series Transmissions
Dana will also present Spicer TE Series powershift transmissions with advanced electronic controls.  These transmissions are specially engineered for premium front-end loaders in Europe and North America to deliver higher input power capability; reduced maintenance; smoother, quieter operation; and better fuel economy.  High-capacity clutches, gears, and bearings ensure longer life, while high-efficiency lock-up and freewheel torque converters are available as additional options.

Spicer TE Series transmissions provide superior shift quality through high-energy-capacity forward and reverse clutches, adaptive clutch modulation, and helical gears.  Select models will feature an optional technology package that includes a five-speed gearbox with lock up, which enables direct drive even at low speeds and reduces fuel consumption by up to 10 percent.

Spicer TE Series transmissions are managed by Dana’s new series of lead-free electronic transmission controls, which offer wider systems integration through upgraded software and enhanced hardware capacity, flexibility, and expandability.  These improvements will enable Spicer transmissions to offer the latest features such as eco-drive, power drive, and next-generation overlap control.

Spicer Hydrostatic Transmissions
While not commonly used on off-highway equipment made in China today, hydrostatic transmission technology is drawing increasing interest from Chinese manufacturers of small front-end loaders and other off-highway applications due to its enhanced efficiency and performance characteristics.

Dana is the market leader in hydrostatic transmission technology and offers options that supply excellent ratio coverage and enhanced vehicle performance.  These technologies include hydrostatic continuously variable transmissions (CVT) that maximize efficiency by continuously monitoring work conditions while responding with the optimal combination of speed, tractive effort, and control, as well as basic two-speed gearboxes and shift-on-fly hydrostatic transmissions.

Dana offers two types of hydrostatic transmissions for front-end loaders.  Basic two-speed gearboxes with stand-still shifting deliver simplified handling and improved operator comfort at an affordable product cost, while shift-on-fly hydrostatic transmissions supply an extremely compact and versatile platform with advanced gear-shifting technology and a wide range of available ratios.

Dana Rexroth HVT
The first product of the 50-50 joint venture between Dana Holding Corporation and Bosch Rexroth AG, the Dana Rexroth hydromechanical variable transmission (HVT) is a powersplit configuration that integrates hydrostatic and mechanical travel drives to leverage the advantages of both technologies.

The HVT is a modular platform that delivers a full suite of configuration options and software controls.  Bosch Rexroth is exhibiting the HVT R2 in hall N4, stand 430/448.

Spicer Axles
Designed to deliver maximum performance for front-end loaders, Spicer axles supply features and specifications to accommodate defined needs.  Customizable to meet local market preferences, these axles are engineered to provide reliable performance and easy, low-cost service.

Dana has re-engineered and upgraded the company’s Spicer 37R and 43R rigid planetary axles, which offer the same performance as previous versions produced by Dana while reducing axle weight by up to 25 percent.  Spicer 37R and 43R axles have load capacities from 20 to 50 tons and feature a modular design with a differential carrier as well as a planetary and service-free brakes positioned inbound.

Spicer 37R and 43R axles are available with no-spin, limited-slip, Posi-Torq™, and Hydraloc™ differentials, and they can accommodate a wide range of vehicle weights, tracks, tires, and chain combinations.

Dana has commenced production of the new Spicer 37R axle in Wuxi, with plans to start production of Spicer 43R axles in early 2015.  The Spicer 37R axle will be shown at Bauma China.
