Jun 18, 2004

Gastonia, NC -- Jun 18, 2004 -- The past few race weekends have seen fans, officials and drivers casting their eyes to the skies, not for the fireworks, but for the rain and storms that have plagued and delayed racing. But once the skies cleared, the racing got underway and not a moment too soon for the WIX Filters Lap Leaders. WIX Filters is the No. 1 filter in NASCAR and an exclusive NASCAR Performance Product.

Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, drove away with his second WIX Filters Lap Leader Award and a check for $5,000 for leading the most laps during Sunday’s Pocono 500 at the Pocono Raceway.

Dover Racing Weekend

The racing weekend at Dover International Speedway on June 6 marked NASCAR’s salute to the heroes of D-Day and our troops all over the world, but it also gave WIX Filters another chance to salute the heroes of racing with its Lap Leader Award.

Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet, drove away with a check for $5,000 for leading the most laps during Sunday’s MBNA 400 “A Salute to Heroes”. This is Stewart’s third WIX Filters Lap Leader Award this season.

Martin Truex Jr, driver of the No. 8 Ritz Chevrolet, led the most laps in the rain-delayed MBNA America 200 that began on Saturday and was completed on Monday and received $2,000. This marks Truex Jr’s sixth Lap Leader Award.

Mike Skinner, driver of the No. 42 Toyota Tundra Toyota truck, was awarded $1,500 for his efforts during Friday’s MBNA America 200. This is Skinner’s second WIX Filters Lap Leader Award this season.

For each event within the three racing divisions – NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – WIX Filters will present the driver who leads the most laps of each race with the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award.

This prestigious award includes cash payouts which will be presented during pre-race ceremonies at each event, as well as a year end payout and stately trophy for the driver who leads the most races with the most laps for each series.

Drivers who lead the most races with the most laps in 2004 for the Grand National North and West Divisions will receive year-end payouts. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award will be expanded to include the South and Midwest series in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

In order to be eligible for the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for a single event, drivers and teams in each series must run the WIX Filters decal on the front fender, and use WIX Racing Oil or Air Filters in their vehicles. Additionally, for any year-end payout, teams must run the decal on the front fender for every race they participate in, with an allowance for one race, and they must always use WIX Racing Oil or Air Filters.
