Dana Facility Recognized For Workers Safety

Apr 1, 2004

Toledo, Ohio -- Apr 01, 2004 -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) announced today that its Spicer Regional Driveshaft Center in Charlotte, N.C., earned a Best Overall Safety Award from The Hartford for operating more than 400,000 man-hours accident free, from June 2002 through June 2003.

“Dana employees are our number one asset, and this award reflects Dana’s continual commitment to its workers and their safety,” said Mike Laisure, president, Automotive Systems Group.  “Dana prides itself in providing safe working conditions, along with operating at top performance levels.”

As a result, the Driveshaft Center earned this award by organizing an operations safety committee.  This committee identifies potential work hazards by utilizing safety inspections throughout the factory and obtaining input from workers. One change included installing overhead hoists at each assembly operation point.  Installing the hoists reduces the amount of lifting and improves assembly efficiency.  The employees at the Charlotte facility also focused on cleaning and marinating workstations to prevent potential hazards.

Dana’s Charlotte facility employs 23 people and produces heavy-duty driveshafts for Freightliner and two of its brands, Thomas Bus and American LaFrance.

“This award is a great accomplishment for the entire Charlotte team.  Our continuous and safe productivity is a testament to all of the hard work everyone puts in here on a day-to-day basis,” said Regional Driveshaft Center Facility Manager Kevin Breidenbach.
