Dana Corporation Completes Expansion of Heavy Vehicle Technology Center

Nov 16, 2004

Toledo, Ohio -- Nov 16, 2004 -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) today announced the completion of a $6 million expansion of its heavy vehicle research and development center in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Heavy Vehicle Technology Center is the North American base for Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group, and also serves as the research, development, and testing center for its commercial vehicle and off-highway products.

“With the solid growth we’re seeing in the commercial vehicle and off-highway markets, there’s no better time to step up our commitment to our customers,” said Nick Cole, president of Dana’s Heavy Vehicle Technologies and Systems Group.  “We’re delighted with the strong customer demand for our current products.   And, at the same time, we’re determined to grow our business further by developing new drivetrain systems.

“This $6 million expansion supports the research and experimentation needed for new concepts and ideas.  Equally important, the expanded capabilities will help accelerate the design and testing processes for some exciting commercial-vehicle products already in development.”

The expansion adds 15,000 square feet of research, development, and testing space to the existing 155,000-square-foot facility.   The enlarged building includes new, advanced testing equipment, including an MTS axle dynamometer.  Additionally, the facility’s new 1,000-square-foot strong-floor bedplate strengthens Dana’s structural testing capabilities.
