Dana's New Spicer® TE15 Electronic-Controlled Transmission Provides Greater Capacity for Tier III Engines
Mar 29, 2004
München, Germany -- Mar 29, 2004 -- Dana Corporation’s Off-Highway Systems has announced that it will begin producing a new Spicer® TE15 transmission in late 2004. Designed for material handling, underground mining, rough terrain cranes, and construction applications, the TE 15 will replace the highly successful 32000 series and deliver a 15 percent rating (KW/HP) increase using larger bearings and stronger shafting and gearing.
Rated at 190 KW and 250 HP, it will offer both cast aluminum and stamped steel torque converters to provide a wide range of capacity to match Tier III engines. The capacity of the new, quieter PTO drive system has also been increased by 35 percent - providing the flow needed to improve vehicle productivity.
According to Al Huevel, product manager, “The TE15 will have many components common to the field proven 32000 series. It basically provides the same silhouette and thus will be compatible with the engine compartments, minimizing engineering effort.”
The TE15 incorporates high contact ratio spur gears in conjunction with helical gearing to satisfy customers’ lower noise requirements and anticipated noise regulations. The TE15 features the next-generation electronic control system with Can2b protocol, electronic clutch modulation (ECM), and electronic-controlled inching (ECI). The control system employs full flow solenoids and pre-charged clutches to provide extremely smooth automatic shifting. State-of-the-art diagnostic and troubleshooting features are designed in the software.
Also available are the new Spicer TE27 (rated at 290 to 360 HP) and TE32 (rated at 360 to 530 HP) Series for the material handling, wheel loader, mining, and construction market segments. These 4-speed full powershift transmissions feature helical gearing and the next generation electronic control technology, including ECM with overlap control. Additional design features include flexplate drive, long drop and short drop versions, and dual auxiliary pump drives.
