Dana Off-Highway Systems To Exhibit New Products Engineered For The Mining Industry at MINExpo 2004

Toledo, Ohio -- Oct 04, 2004 -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) Off-Highway Systems announced today that it will exhibit a comprehensive line of new and existing products for the mining industry at MINExpo 2004, Sept. 27-30 in Las Vegas, Nev.   

“OEMs around the globe depend on Dana Corporation’s Spicer® drivetrain products to keep their mining equipment operating with minimal maintenance and downtime,” said Bob Brazeau, chief engineer.  “From design to assembly, Dana engineers products that are specifically designed to meet the demanding operational and life cycle requirements of mining equipment.  These products include planetary axles with multiple brake options, power-shift transmissions, electronic controls, driveshafts, and end fittings.”

Dana’s Spicer products are incorporated into the design of a wide variety of mining vehicles, including scoops, shuttles, load-haul-dumps (LHD), personnel carriers, self-propelled blast-hole drills, and site-utility vehicles. 

The following new Spicer products will be on display at Dana Corp.’s MINExpo booth No. 8073:  

Spicer 54R/58R series axles – Developed to accommodate the trend toward larger LHD and underground mining truck designs. The 54R300 and 58R397 axles feature increased capacity bearings and differential body components for extended longevity under more demanding conditions:   

Spicer®Hercules™ 37R series axles – For heavy-duty use in the underground mining industry. The 37R series is engineered with a rigid, multi-piece load bearing structure – including the differential carrier, housing arms, and planetary wheel ends – that accommodates multiple vehicle platform configurations:

Spicer TE 15 transmission – Designed for material handling and rough-terrain crane applications. The TE15 will replace the highly successful 32000 series and deliver a 15 percent rating (KW/HP) increase using larger bearings and stronger shafting and gearing; and;

The next-generation Spicer transmission control series – Providing compatibility with Can 2.b communication protocol. The new series of transmission controls includes the Spicer® Econ™ essential controller and Spicer® PCon™ powertrain controller (compatible with all Dana Spicer transmission designs), as well as the Spicer® TCon™ transmission controller, Spicer® ICon™ intelligent controller, and Spicer® ACon™ advanced controller (compatible with Dana’s Spicer TE transmission series).

Dana Corp. will additionally display its existing product line of transmissions, wheel ends, and brakes for the mining industry, which includes:

A complete line of Spicer® Italcardano™ wing bearing driveshafts, Spicer® GWB™ round bearing driveshafts, and Spicer 10 series half-round bearing endfittings:

Spicer TE32 transmission for material-handling equipment:

53R300 wheel ends and high-capacity, liquid-cooled brakes for mining; and
