Dana's Hastings Machining Plant Wins 1998 Nebraska Edgerton Quality Award

    HASTINGS, Neb., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Nebraska Lt. Governor Kim Robak
today presented the Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN), Perfect Circle Sealed Power
Division, Hastings Machining Plant, with the 1998 Edgerton Quality Award of
Progress for Continuous Process Improvement for its efforts to maintain
excellence in the workplace and with its customers.  The award is sponsored by
the Existing Business Assistance Division of the Nebraska Department of
Economic Development, and was a part of Nebraska's Business and Industry
Recognition Day held in Hastings, Nebraska today.
    The Edgerton Quality Award Program is named for the late Harold E. "Doc"
Edgerton, a scientist, inventor, educator, and business entrepreneur.
Sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, the program
annually recognizes Nebraska's service and manufacturing companies and
adaptation of technology.
    Applying for the award offers businesses a valuable service in evaluating
their processes and providing feedback which highlights successes and
opportunities for improvement.  It is an exercise in the continuous
improvement process and allows companies to share information on successful
strategies with other Nebraska businesses.  The awards recognize businesses
dedicated to excellence.  More than 200 business and industry leaders were on
hand as the Lt. Governor presented the awards.
    Barry R. Lloyd, Hastings Plant Manager, accepting the award for the
Hastings facility, stated that "We are really excited with winning this
prestigious award, showing how our quality systems have allowed us to improve
our customer satisfaction, quality levels and overall facility performance.
Even though the plant staff was instrumental in developing our application,
our entire Hastings team really won the award.  Without them, the application
would only be an assortment of papers."

employs over 280 people and manufacturers piston rings and Plastigage(R) for
the automotive and industrial markets in a wide range of product sizes -- from
