Oct 8, 1997

TOLEDO, Ohio, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) today
announced plans to construct a new axle manufacturing facility in China's
Fujian Province.
Dana's Fujian Spicer Drivetrain Systems Corp., Ltd., a recently-
established drivetrain systems operation serving the Chinese light axle
market, will construct a 40,000-square-foot axle manufacturing facility in
Fuzhou, China. Scheduled for completion late next summer, the facility is
expected to eventually employ approximately 150 people.
Dana Asia Pacific President Chuck Heine said Fujian Spicer and its new
axle facility will bolster Dana's presence in one of the world's growing
regions. "It's no secret that the Asia Pacific marketplace holds promise for
automotive manufacturers and suppliers alike," he said. "This announcement is
further evidence of Dana's efforts to position itself to better support its
customers in China and throughout the Asia Pacific region."
Dana currently operates three manufacturing facilities in China and 13 in
the Asia-Pacific region.
The Fuzhou facility will initially support the manufacture of axles for a
Fujian-based vehicle assembler. The first axle components produced by Fujian
Spicer will be for full-size and small vans. In the future, both front and
rear driving and non-driving axles will be produced for a variety of light-
duty vehicle applications.
