Dana Corporation Venezuelan Operation Earns ISO 14001 Certification

Aug 26, 2002

TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN)
announced today that its Torque and Traction Technologies foundry in Valencia,
Venezuela, has earned the ISO 14001 certification. The SH Fundiciones foundry
joins more than two-thirds of Dana's manufacturing facilities around the globe
that have also obtained ISO 14001.
The facility produces differential cases and carriers for several of
Dana's global operations and other customers -- including one of Dana's
largest competitors.
Last year, Dana announced a company-wide objective to have all
manufacturing facilities worldwide ISO 14001 compliant by the end of 2002.
With the certification of the Valencia foundry, 168 of Dana's 253
manufacturing operations have been certified, with the remainder on target for
compliance by the end of the year.
ISO 14001 is an Environmental Management System developed by the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which provides any
company, regardless of size or type, with a system for managing environmental
impact. The documents cover a range of environmental disciplines, including
environmental management systems, auditing, environmental performance
evaluation, labeling, life-cycle assessment, and environmental aspects in
product standards.
"We did this not just because it's good management practice, but rather we
did this because it was the right thing to do," said Fernando Calderon,
general director of Dana's Venezuelan operations. "This achievement further
demonstrates that being good stewards of the environment will always be taken
seriously by all our facilities located throughout South America."
Added Alfredo Oran, plant manager of the foundry, "Our operations have
always taken a leadership role in safety, quality, and environmental issues
related to our clients. The high standards of the AQSR register makes this
accomplishment something we are all proud of."
The Dana Torque and Traction Technologies Group develops total systems to
transfer any form of power into motion through the use of advanced
technologies for torque and traction control, noise refinement, stability
enhancements, and fuel efficiency.
