Dec 20, 1996
TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wix Filtration Products Division of Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) will expand its manufacturing and fuel-filter production capabilities with the acquisition of Flexon, Inc., according to Richard B. Forde, group vice president of the company's Wix Filtration Products Group. Flexon, located in Ferndale, Mich., a Detroit suburb, was founded in 1977 by John Kroha, who will continue as Flexon's president, as it becomes a unit of Wix's North American Filter Operation. Flexon manufactures a full line of fuel filters and employs 125 people. "We're delighted to welcome the Flexon people to Dana," said Forde. "This acquisition adds to our capability to produce the fuel filters required to protect today's fuel-injection systems. Flexon's proven technology in laser welding, stainless steel manufacturing, injection molding and plastic welding can also be used in the design and manufacture of other Wix filtration products. "Flexon's product and manufacturing technology will also allow Wix to link with other Dana divisions to produce filter fittings, hoses and plastic components to produce fuel systems for vehicular and industrial applications." Flexon is Dana's third acquisition of a filter company this year. Earlier in the year, it purchased the air-filter manufacturing facilities of James N. Kirby Pty. Ltd. and the oil-, air-filter manufacturing operations of J.B. Morgan & Co. Ltd. Both companies are located in Australia. Wix Filtration Products Division is headquartered in Gastonia, N.C., and manufactures a full line of filters for cars, trucks, vans and buses, farm and heavy-duty equipment. With the Flexon acquisition, Wix now has 14 manufacturing plants and 12 distribution centers in North and South Carolina, Oklahoma, Canada, Venezuela, Australia and China.
