Dana Corporation Earns Volvo Award of Excellence

    TOLEDO, Ohio, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) has
been named one of five winners of the 2002 Volvo Car Corporation Award of
Excellence.  Dana's Victor Reinz division received the award for its thermal
acoustical protective shields (TAPS) technology, found in the entire range of
Volvo vehicles, including the award-winning Volvo XC90 sport-utility vehicle.

    Thermal acoustical protective shields protect sensitive electronics, fuel
systems, and passenger compartments from extreme heat -- up to 500 degrees
Celsius.   They also reduce engine noise, vibration, and harshness.   The
compactness of Dana's TAPS -- with an installed thickness of 1.5 mm -- saves
space, while providing enough strength to support the attachment of other
components.
    Dana's TAPS incorporate three stamped layers, including an insulating
filler.  This three-layer shield weighs less than many other manufacturers'
two-layer models.
    Volvo's 380 global suppliers were narrowed to 11 for Award of Excellence
nominees. Suppliers were judged on six criteria, including quality, cost
reduction, technology, and productivity.
