Dana Chairman and CEO Joe Magliochetti said President George W. Bush's
recently announced $1.2 billion Fuel-Cell Initiative reaffirms the continuing
importance of fuel-cell development and energy conservation. "Dana has a
significant track record in fuel-cell component development," Mr. Magliochetti
said. "In fact, our engineers are currently working on more than 50 active
fuel cell projects globally with partners in the residential, commercial, and
automotive markets. We are particularly encouraged by the level of technology
directed toward a commercially and technically viable fuel cell for mobile
applications."
Fuel cells convert the chemical energy in fuels, such as hydrogen, into
efficient and environmentally friendly electricity. The electricity generated
will effectively power automotive, commercial, and recreational vehicles. In
addition to transportation applications, fuel cells are now beginning to power
hand-held devices, houses, and businesses. This exciting technology will
lessen reliance on traditional energy sources.
Dana has established dedicated Fuel-Cell Support Centers in the United
States, Canada, and Germany. These centers are developing the technology and
components to support three major fuel-cell sub-systems: the fuel-cell stack,
fuel processor, and balance of plant. At each location, Dana scientists,
engineers, and designers are developing the next generation of fuel-cell
products and manufacturing methods in preparation for high-volume production.
