Part of a global program with Isuzu and General Motors to provide
structural products, the business represents Dana's first structural activity
in the Asia-Pacific region. The Structural Solutions Group has built a new
facility in Bangpakong, Thailand, to manufacture the support modules for
Isuzu's assembly facility in Bangkok. As part of its proprietary
manufacturing processes, Dana will be introducing a compound-blanking process
to Thailand.
In addition to the Thailand facility, Dana has also established operations
in the United States and Brazil to support this global GM-Isuzu pick-up
platform.
This new vehicle will be slated for sales and export to Europe, as well as
the Asia-Pacific region. Based on Isuzu's production projections, Dana
estimates that the new business in Thailand will be worth some $375 million
for the life of the contract -- model years 2003 through 2009.
Dana Chairman and CEO Joe Magliochetti said, "This new program further
reflects the broader benefits of our global growth initiatives. Today we are
well positioned around the world to serve our customers as a global partner
and strategic supplier. Our ability and agility in all regions of the world
makes us the ideal partner for any global vehicular platform."
Bill Carroll, president of Dana's Automotive Systems Group, said, "Dana
was chosen for this new pick-up truck platform not only because it was able to
develop innovative solutions through technologically advanced products, but
also because it was responsive to the customer's needs in deploying these
latest innovations and technologies globally."
The Structural Solutions Group is part of Dana's Automotive Systems Group,
which is a leading provider of under-the-vehicle integration technology for
