Dana Corporation Collaborates with Ford on Design of New 2002 Harley- Davidson(TM) F-150 SuperCrew Pick-Up
Feb 19, 2002
TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dana Corporation's (NYSE: DCN) announced today that it has been awarded a contract beginning February 2002 to supply system-balanced driveshaft assemblies and structural solutions for Ford Motor Company's popular, limited-edition Harley-Davidson F- 150 SuperCrew pick-up trucks. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990903/DANA ) Dana utilized proprietary balancing technology to create a smoother running driveshaft, which will be easily recognized by the driver through enhanced vehicle performance and efficiency, as well as reduced NVH noise, vibration, and harshness. "Ford came to Dana for a solution under extremely tight timing and we delivered," said Bill Carroll, president of Dana's Automotive Systems Group. "This kind of customer service and support is one of Dana's hallmarks." To greatly increase the handling characteristics and intensify the already attractive truck profile, Dana, working in cooperation with Ford engineers, redesigned the frame for a lower ride height. "The truck uses 20-inch wheels with very low-profile tires. We redesigned our frame, in conjunction with the suspension, to give the appearance that the truck is riding lower than it actually is," Carroll explained. "This approach also greatly improves handling, since a lower ride height creates a lower center of gravity -- reducing the amount of body roll the driver might feel going around curves or corners. The big wheels, low-profile tires, and lower ride height from our frame combine to give a more road-performance-oriented truck that drives like a Mustang but offers the traditional pick-up truck benefits of payload and towing." Dana will supply Ford's Kansas City, Mo., plant from its award-winning facilities in Louisville and Elizabethtown, Ky.
