The awards marked the third consecutive year that a Dana facility was
honored with Kentucky's highest quality achievement. The company has now had
five facilities earn top honors in the five years that the award has been
presented. Dana's Victor Reinz sealing systems facility in Danville won the
inaugural award in 1997, and its Structural Solutions facilities in
Hopkinsville and Elizabethtown received the award in 1999 and 2000,
respectively.
Dana Chairman and CEO Joe Magliochetti, said, "It is especially gratifying
to have two more of our Kentucky operations earn the state's highest quality
honor. These awards illustrate the commitment our people have to quality.
The Dana Style and the Dana Quality Leadership Process -- two competitive
advantages unique to the Dana Corporation -- provide a solid foundation for
this recognition."
"The awards demonstrate that Dana's customers -- and consequently the
ultimate consumers -- are the recipients of the highest product, technology,
service, and quality standards," he added.
Dana's Commercial Vehicle Axle facilities in Henderson and Glasgow were
also recognized for their quality with Level 3 and Level 2 awards,
respectively.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky Quality Award uses the same criteria as the
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The Spicer Driveshaft Group's U.S.
operations earned the Baldrige Award in 2000, and Dana Commercial Credit
received the award in 1996.
As part of the CKQA process, the facilities underwent a site visit with
Kentucky Quality Council examiners. The facility was scored in seven
categories, including leadership, strategic planning, customer and market
focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management, and
business results.
The awards were presented Tuesday during a Performance Excellence
conference in Louisville, where Joe Sober, vice president and general manager
of Spicer Driveshaft, was the keynote speaker.
