Dana and 35 of its supplier partners joined in presenting a $20,000 joint
membership check to Dr. Delbert Gray, president and CEO of MMBDC in an event
hosted by Dana at the DaimlerChrysler Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Mich.
DaimlerChrysler Corporation Executive Vice President of Procurement and Supply
Tom Sidlik, also participated in the program.
"We are encouraged by the tremendous level of participation among our
supplier partners in supporting MMBDC," said Dana Chairman and CEO Joe
Magliochetti. "Dana is committed to the advancement of minority supplier
development. The natural extension of this is to see that this level of
support is carried further into our own supply chain by assisting our
suppliers in developing their own diversity programs."
Membership in the MMBDC is one element in Dana's program to encourage its
suppliers to develop minority supplier initiatives. Other elements include
establishment of minority supplier champions and rewarding supplier partners
who achieve specific sales volumes with certified minority suppliers.
Added Kenneth Gardner, director of Minority Supplier Development,
"Minority supplier development is a key component of Dana's global strategic
sourcing process. Ultimately, we'd like to see this type of integrated effort
spread throughout all tiers of the supply chain."
Dana has achieved significant progress in its minority supplier
development efforts. Indicative of this progress was the recent Circle of
Excellence Award earned by Dana's Spicer Light Axle Group. Sponsored by the
National Minority Supplier Development Council, the award recognized Dana's
"outstanding efforts and dedication toward the advancement of minority
enterprises."
