May 15, 1998

MUSKEGON, Mich., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The trophy case at Dana
Corporation's (NYSE: DCN) Perfect Circle Sealed Power Division has been
enlarged to make room for new customer awards.
There is good reason for such action at the division's headquarters in
Muskegon, Michigan. Perfect Circle Sealed Power continues to win honor
after honor for zero defects (0 parts per million, or PPM) and for large-
volume on-time deliveries, as well as successful projects with customers.
The impressive awards and recognition are from premier names in industry
-- Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, John Deere, Trane, Copeland, Midland
Brake and Allied-Signal.
In 1997, Ford Motor Co. honored Perfect Circle Sealed Power for zero
defects in piston rings delivered to Ford's Dearborn, Mich., engine and
fuel tank; Lima, Ohio engine; and Cleveland engine plants. In 1996, the
division was commended for shipping 101 million piston rings to Ford with
zero defects (0 PPM).
Also, Ford honored Tom Dunning, Perfect Circle Sealed Power
design/applications engineer, with an Award of Excellence for his work
with Ford Design and Manufacturing personnel in its advanced quality
planning efforts. The results of this working partnership: Ford shipped
hundreds of thousands of 3.8L Essex engines to its customers with zero
customer oil consumption complaints.
Shipments to Chrysler Corp. also established noteworthy recognition. For
the 1997 model year (August 1, 1996, to July 31, 1997), the division
shipped more than 43 million parts to Chrysler with zero defects. For the
1998 model year, shipments from August 1, 1997 through March 30, 1998, had
zero defects for more than 29 million parts. Dana Corporation was one of
only two suppliers that received multiple Chrysler Pentastar Awards for 1997.
The Perfect Circle Sealed Power Division also received kudos from General
Motors Corp. for zero defects in deliveries for the last six months of 1997,
and Allied Signal Corp. and Midland Brake recognized the division for zero
defects in 1997.
The Trane Co. recognized Dana for more than one year's performance. The
shipments to Trane had no defects during the five year period from 1992
through 1997. Jim Lassila, buyer at Trane's Tyler, Texas, plant said,
"Perfect Circle Sealed Power is one of only a handful of suppliers to
Trane Compressors with zero defects over the last five years. Great job!"
A major supplier of piston rings to the John Deere engine works in
Dubuque, Iowa, Dana was named "1997 Supplier of the Year" in March of this
year. In presenting their highest honor for a supplier, Deere executives
cited Dana's 100 percent on-time delivery as well as the work performed
with Deere engineers in developing a new ring pack for the 6081 engine
that reduced cost and also improved performance.
According to Martin Schramm, manager, materials and supply for Deere,
"Perfect Circle Sealed Power parts are always here on time, like clockwork,
with zero defects parts per million."
"The Dana production and quality people are assertive in contacting Deere
and in discussing any matter that could interrupt a smooth operation for
either party. They have an attitude of `We have a problem to resolve'
which demonstrates that they are team players."
Dana was also recognized for zero defects in parts delivered for the year
1997 by Allied-Signal Corp., Copeland Corp., and Midland Brake.
The Division's Franklin, Ky., cast iron plant also just won the Copeland
"Hallmark of Excellence" award for superior service and zero defects, and
the Hastings, Neb., plant just received Nebraska's "Edgerton Award of
Progress" for continuous process improvement for its efforts to maintain
excellence in the workplace and with its customers.
"These awards are becoming commonplace for us in Dana Engine Components.
But we should remember and recognize the total commitment to engineering,
design, quality assurance and customer service that produces them. These
awards are the result of a total team effort throughout the Perfect Circle
Sealed Power Division, and we are very proud of them," noted Hugo
Ferreira, vice president of Dana's Engine Products Group.
