Dana Corporation Earns Indiana Minority Supplier Award

Aug 31, 1998

TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Spicer Axle Division of Dana
Corporation (NYSE: DCN) was recently recognized by the Indiana Regional
Minority Supplier Development Council as northern Indiana's top corporation
for purchasing materials and services from minority suppliers.
July marked the third consecutive month in which Spicer Axle earned the
distinction, which is awarded monthly by the Indiana Regional Minority
Supplier Development Council. As a result, the Council's Minority Input
Committee has also nominated Dana for the Corporation of the Year award,
sponsored by the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
Spicer Axle Division Director of Procurement Jim Hensel said the honor
reflects the division's increased efforts in the minority purchasing arena.
"Since 1996, our procurement people have worked in tandem with each of the
manufacturing and assembly plants in the Spicer Axle Division to focus on
developing partnerships with minority suppliers that can add value to our
bottom line," he said.
Spicer Axle Division facilities have made significant progress in
purchases from minority suppliers, moving from $2.1 million in minority
purchases in 1996 to a 1998 trend of approximately $9 million.
"We are proud to have been recognized as a leader in purchasing materials
and services from minority suppliers," Hensel added. "The Spicer Axle
Division -- and Dana as a whole -- are committed to expanding our achievements
in this important area."
Spicer Axle's success in northern Indiana is indicative of Dana's
corporate-wide commitment to developing its minority supplier relationships.
One element of this commitment is the creation of Dana's Minority Supplier
Development Office. Created to identify minority- and female-owned suppliers,
the office assists minority suppliers as they work through the nuances of a
decentralized purchasing program.
One of the world's largest independent suppliers to vehicular, off-
highway, and industrial manufacturers and their related aftermarkets, Dana
Corporation produces components used on more than 95 percent of the world's
650 million motor vehicles. Founded in 1904 and based in Toledo, Ohio, the
company operates 270 major facilities in 33 countries and employs more than
79,000 people. The company had pro forma sales of $11.9 billion in 1997.
