Jul 29, 2005

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, (July 29, 2005) — Don’t miss your chance to watch the top engine builders of NASCAR compete in a head-to-head competition. See who can build and fire their engine the fastest in the Clevite Engine Builder Showdown.

On Sunday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, SPEED Channel will broadcast a special one-hour program dedicated to the 2005 Clevite Engine Builder Showdown held earlier this year. Tune in to see whether Mike Maiwald and Shane Parsnow of Hendrick Motorsports or Danny Lawrence and Greg Gunnell of Richard Childress Racing will claim the first Randy Dorton Memorial Trophy.

This year’s final round — featuring guest commentary from Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, and his crew chief, Chad Knaus — was joined by a memorial celebration for legend Randy Dorton, former director of engine development with Hendrick Motorsports. Highlights of the evening’s events included the unveiling of the Randy Dorton Engine Room, speeches made by team owners Rick Hendrick, Ray Evernham, and Clevite’s Terry Shively, awards presentations and silent and live auctions raising more than $65,000 to benefit the Randy Dorton Memorial Fund Scholarship.

The Randy Dorton Memorial Fund continues to post items — including rare NASCAR memorabilia — on eBay, The World’s Online Marketplace®. To view the items and place bids, visit www.ebay.com/randydorton.
