Dana currently supplies bi-polar plates for Plug Power's commercially released fuel cells and is collaborating on the development of thermal management products for Plug Power's next generation prime power fuel cells. These products combine durability with lightweight designs and have resulted in improved reliability, performance, and ability to manufacture. These attributes in turn have reduced the cost per kilowatt, which is necessary for market acceptance.

Dana has had a development relationship with Plug Power since 1999 and has been a Top 5 supplier since 2002.

Dana's full array of fuel-cell components is on display at the 61st International Motor Show (IAA), which runs through Sept. 25 in Frankfurt, Germany.

"Dana's relationship with Plug Power is mutually beneficial, because both companies share a commitment to making fuel cells affordable and available commercially," said Michael J. Burns, Dana chairman and CEO. "With rising energy costs and the rapid advancement of technology, the viability of this alternative fuel source is appealing."

Dana has the capability to mass produce bi-polar plate assemblies, in either stainless steel or molded carbon materials, with integrated seals and connectors. The company has developed a proprietary, cost-effective manufacturing process for its bipolar plates. Dana believes this process is the first of its kind for mass-producing fuel-cell components.

Dana is supporting fuel-cell development programs for dozens of customers in the residential, commercial, portable power, and transportation industries.

Through its global network of fuel-cell technology centers, Dana is actively working with most major OEMs to develop high-quality, cost-effective fuel-cell components. Dana is a world leader in the development and manufacture of fuel-cell stack, balance-of-plant, and fuel-processor components for portable, small stationary, and automotive applications.
