New Dana Brochure Provides Wealth of Information on Tire Inflation Systems

Apr 10, 2006

KALAMAZOO, Mich., April 10, 2006 – A new six-page brochure from Dana Corporation’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group describes the many benefits of the Dana Spicer® TIMS™ tire inflation and monitor system for trailers. Highlights of the brochure include a detailed itemization of the cost-savings that result from properly inflated tires, the system’s advantages versus constant pressurization systems, and information on integrating TIMS with Bendix® TABS-6 trailer ABS.

When trailer tires are properly inflated, the brochure notes that a typical fleet can generate savings in excess of $1,000 per year due to fuel economy improvements, extended tread life, increased up-time, and the avoidance of costs associated with tire blowouts. Citing Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) data, the brochure points out that tires under inflated by as little as 10 percent will cause fuel degradation penalties of roughly 0.5 percent and can shorten tread life by as much as 16 percent.

The brochure compares monitor-only and constant-pressure, regulator-based systems, whose potential disadvantages can include premature seal failures, contamination, blowouts, and downtime – all resulting in increased maintenance and associated costs. Conversely, Spicer TIMS checks all tires automatically, and air is directed only to the under-inflated tire until the proper pressure is achieved, thereby enhancing the life of seals and lines.

The Spicer TIMS system is available as a standalone system or integrated with Bendix® TABS-6 trailer ABS, which represents the world’s first integrated full-function tire inflation and monitor system for trailers.

The brochure, item number ACSL-0010, can be downloaded or ordered free of charge at www.Roadranger.com/TIMS.
